How SafeHabit works (technical)

SafeHabit is a voluntary digital wellbeing and self-control recovery tool. The user installs the app, reads a disclosure, and chooses to enable protection. Adding a trusted supporter is optional. Protection is always visible so you know when support is active.

How SafeHabit Works

You choose protection ahead of time while clear-minded.

Later, during difficult moments, SafeHabit reminds you of that decision.

The app does not read personal messages or record what you do.

1

Install the app

Download SafeHabit from the Play Store and open it. You will see a welcome and disclosure screen before any permissions are involved.

2

Enable protection

After you read and accept the disclosure, you choose to enable protection. You grant only the permissions you need: Usage Access (to know which app is in the foreground), optional Accessibility (SafeHabit can show a reminder when certain words appear on screen; no text is stored or sent anywhere), and Protection Connection / VPN (to prevent access to sites you chose to avoid). SafeHabit does not read personal messages or record what you do. Protection is always visible so you know when support is active—a persistent notification on your device shows when protection is on.

3

Optionally add a trusted supporter

If you want support, you can add one trusted supporter. This is optional. They cannot view what you do in real time and cannot control your device. They only receive weekly encouragement summaries you chose to share. You can remove them at any time.

4

Stay on track

The app prevents access to sites you chose to avoid, offers support during moments you chose to avoid so you can pause and choose, and shows your progress through simple totals like stronger days and protection time. You can pause protection temporarily or remove the app. If you added a trusted supporter and are on a plan that includes a cool-down before turning protection off, you request a code from them to confirm removal—otherwise you can disable and uninstall on your own. You can turn off this feature anytime in the app; SafeHabit never permanently locks your device.

Why SafeHabit requests permissions

  • Usage Access — know which app is in the foreground for support during moments you chose to avoid
  • Accessibility — SafeHabit can show a reminder when certain words appear on screen. No text is stored or sent anywhere.
  • Protection Connection (VPN) — prevents access to sites you chose to avoid

SafeHabit does not read personal messages or record what you do.

Cool-down before turning protection off

This delay helps prevent impulsive decisions and gives your future self time to reconsider. You can disable this feature anytime from within the app.

SafeHabit never permanently locks your device.
